Day Seven – Doonby goes to Alabama
So, I figure since I have a few hours before it is my turn to drive I’ll try to get a quick update in. We just pulled out of Canton with the RV loaded to the brim with supplies for our trip to Alabama. The motorcycle trailer has about ½ of travel on its shocks because of the water and a trip to the back of the RV means stepping over diapers, water, Gatorade and bath towels. I don’t think Ryan knows about the canned beans I stored in his bed but he will soon enough! On the positive side, being loaded down with 1000lbs of water makes for a smoother ride and better resistance to this darned prairie wind!
Credit where credit is due: thanks to the Doonby filmmakers (Peter and Mike Mackenzie, Mark Joseph) for stepping up and financing this detour. Many, many thanks also to the great folks who helped us at the Canton Wal-Mart: Sean, Kat and Jessica (pictured below) who were so incredibly wonderful. Manager Sean dropped what he was doing to walk us through the store to collect our horde of goods only to walk us out and help load them onto the RV. On the way out, they told us they are taking a collection in the store towards the purchase of more relief goods. Great people we are proud to call our friends.
Anyway, we are about 11 hours outside of Montgomery, AL where we will be staying for the next few days. I don’t really know specifically what we will be doing besides handing out the goods we brought, but we have contacts on the ground already getting some plans in motion.
I’ll leave you with some numbers and pictures in light of my lack of verbiage. Picture is worth a thousand words, right?
